Elgin City lost their William Hill League 2 derby at Peterhead to make it four consecutive defeats for the Borough Briggs outfit
Elgin City’s sticky run of form continued with a derby defeat at Peterhead on Saturday.
The Black and Whites go into a run of three consecutive home matches in the midst of a four-game losing streak after losing 2-0 at Balmoor Stadium.
Elgin welcomed back centre half Jack Murray from a knee injury that had kept him out for nine matches since December.
The Peterhead offside trap frustrated City on numerous occasions in the first half, while Dajon Golding fired over with one chance that the visitors did create on 27 minutes.
Kilmarnock loan keeper Aidan Glavin made a great save from Cieran Dunne, but just when City looked like surviving until the break, they conceded a goal in injury time.
Scott Ross’ header came back off the post and Andrew McCarthy reacted to the loose ball and fired it home.
It got worse for Elgin ten minutes after the break when on-form Peterhead striker Kieran Shanks lashed home a second strike for the Buchan men.
Glavin then denied Seb Ross, while Elgin handed a debut to their latest loan signing, Annan midfielder Kyle Fleming midway through the second half.
The home side looked more likely to add to their tally than Elgin to reduce it, as Glavin again saved well from Ross in the closing ten minutes.
The defeat means City are now looking over their shoulder at Spartans, who beat Bonnyrigg 3-1, and Stirling Albion who defeated leaders East Fife 1-0 as both clubs are now just four points behind the Black and Whites in the push for the play-offs.
