The double Scottish Golden Gloves champion was thrown into a two-day duel against home hero Dan Pitt, who recently won the 85kg world championships title.

Vaitekunas first boxed on the Friday in what was a close bout but the Welshman rightly had his armed raised.

Just 24 hours later it was a very different battle between the two boxers.

The Elgin boxer forced the pace from the first bell and in the second round he produced an overhand right hand blow which sent the champion to the canvas.

In round three the Welsh fighter came back slightly but it was to everyone’s shock when the announcement was made that Pitt has been awarded a second victory.

The consolation for Vaitekunas was the knowledge that he had proved he compete at international level against a highly-rated opponent.
