Elgin City manager Gavin Price has taken ex-Aberdeen attacker Chris Antoniazzi on trial from Formartine United with a view to a possible Borough Briggs switch.

The 22-year-old, whose career began at Pittodrie before having spells at Cove Rangers, Montrose and now Formartine, played for City as a second half substitute on Friday night.

"We are just getting a chance to have a look at Chris," said Price.

"He gives you something a bit different in the final third and he will be in training with us next week.

"Formartine have given us permission to do that and if we can agree anything with them, then we will assess that."

Price is also keen to recruit a left back and is still assessing the situation with ex-Kilmarnock Northern Irish teenager Euan Deveney, who played a trial game for Elgin but is currently training with Airdrie.

"Euan is in at Airdrie at the minute and playing with them over the weekend so we will wait and see what happens with that.

"We’ve got a couple of other options we are looking at in that position as well."

Price has already signed defenders Jake Dolzanski, Jevan Anderson and Owen Cairns and midfielder Kenny MacInnes over the summer.

Following Friday's 3-0 win over Forres Mechanics, City have won six pre-season outings without conceding a goal and Price said the challenge for his players will intensify with the start of their Premier Sports campaign on Saturday.

The Black and Whites visit Championship side Ayr United in their opening group match, but will first take on a young Rangers XI for Brian Cameron's testimonial match on Wednesday.

They threatened to overwhelm Forres during a fast opening spell on Friday.

Darryl McHardy's back post header from a Cameron cross was adjudged to have crossed the loine on four minutes, and when Kane Hester tapped in from a Dylan Lawrence header five minutes later, a big scoreline looked on the cards.

When Forres keeper Stuart Knight conceded a penalty on 15 minutes it could have been worse for Forres but Cameron blazed high over the bar, and also missed a one-on-one chance which Knight saved later in the half.

The customary rash of second half substitutions took the flow out of the game and there was just one more goal scored by sub Josh Peters with ten minutes left.

Antoniazzi replaced Matheus Machado at the break and looked lively on the flank with some promising cross balls played in to the box.

Elgin beat Clach 5-0, Lossiemouth 6-0, Fraserburgh 2-0, Peterhead 2-0 and Keith 5-0 in their previous outings.

"The players have been different class in the close season and pre-season in terms of their preparation," said Price.

"I’ve talked before about how important it was that we did that this season and it’s plain to see if you put the effort in with anything in life, you get the rewards.

"Nothing is achieved but it has certainly been good preparation so far.

"That is the first block over for our pre-season. The next block in July is much more testing, four games against strong opposition so it will be a different test for us.

"In some of the games we will have a lot less of the ball and we will need to see a different aspect to the game but they seem to know their role on the pitch, their roles as team-mates and it is a good group.

"We’ve got Soapy’s game on Wednesday which will be a mixture of players so we will look to get a bit more normality to next week and prepare for the Ayr United game."
