McDonald (22) joined City on loan in October from West of Scotland League side St Cadoc's YC, who he signed for after leaving Elgin in the summer.

He featured in the Black and Whites' first 13 games this season alongside Stephen Bronsky in centre defence.

McDonald was then benched for the Scottish Cup tie against Civil Service Strollers, as he was due to serve a suspension for the next league match.

City revealed that the player's contract with St Cadoc's had been terminated and he was a free agent, with Peterhead stepping in to sign him.

"Despite our best efforts to sign him, he has chosen to move on," said an Elgin spokesperson.
