Elgin City blown away by five goal Hibs in Premier Sports Cup group opener
A BAPTISM of fire it turned out to be for Elgin City against Premiership Hibernian on Saturday.
The Black and Whites were given a footballing lesson by the Edinburgh side who ran out convincing 5-0 winners at Borough Briggs.
The Premier Sports Cup group opener attracted a crowd of more than 1700 but in truth Elgin struggled to make any impact against the full-time visitors.
They got off to a bad start when they conceded the opener after just eight minutes when Dylan Vente scored and although they got into the game after that and played reasonably well in the first half, they conceded a second goal right on the stroke of half-time.
Elgin boss Allan Hale was disappointed by a terrible start to the second half which saw them concede three goals in the space of 13 minutes, from Marvin Ekpiteta, Martin Boyle and Vente completing his hat-trick.
Hibs are favourites to top the group and Elgin will get a better assessment of where they are at as a squad when League 1 Kelty Hearts visit Borough Borough Briggs on Tuesday night.
They then travel to Peterhead on Saturday, July 20, followed by a trip to Glasgow to play Queens Park on Tuesday, July 23.
