A GOALSCORING menace against Elgin City in previous years, Josh Peters plans to reverse the trend by shooting his new club towards glory this season.

Peters (24) netted two winners for Stirling against City last term, adding to three previous occasions he had found the net for Forfar and Queen’s Park in direct opposition to his current employers.

Signed by the Black and Whites last week, he scored with his second touch on his debut against Lossiemouth and added two more in the midweek win against Forres.

But he insists there’s plenty more to come for City once he reaches peak fitness, and if he can grab a regular place in the team.

“It’s been a good start, good to get some minutes under my belt and get some fitness back, as well as scoring a couple of goals,” he said.

“I was just happy to get back on the pitch (on Saturday) and it was my second touch when I scored. I probably should have had more.

“I’ve not played a lot of 90 minutes in the last couple of seasons, just little injuries now and then.

“It’s something I need to work on a little bit. I definitely can still get fitter, I know that, but it’s good to get 90 minutes under my belt.”

His past record of goals against City didn’t go unnoticed with Elgin manager Gavin Price when he signed the striker, who has also had spells at Hibs and Livingston.

"I think it’s the only team I score against, I don't think I score against many other teams," he said.

"Hopefully it’s the other way round this season and I’m scoring for us.

“The boys have kept quiet (about past goals), but I think they know what I can do and I know what I can do as well.

"They’ve obviously seen it and if I’m given that service, that’s what I’m in the team for if I do play."

“Hopefully that continues throughout the whole season now, that I keep fit and get a place in the team and keep my shirt.”

Peters is relishing the start of the League 2 season with his new club - assuming the campaign does happen.

"t’s not the easiest one to start off with, Stranraer away. Hopefully it all goes ahead, as everyone is chomping at the bit to get back playing.

"Obviously it’s a shorter season this season so the games probably mean a little bit more as there’s not as many.

"We’ve got high hopes with the players we’ve got in the team so hopefully we get off to a good start and see where it goes from there."

Manager Price has no doubts about the potential of his new signing.

“Josh is a renowned finisher, if we get him fit then he’ll score goals," he said.
