ELGIN City are set to repeat a shirt sponsorship draw which netted them £19,500 last season.

Efforts to attract a main sponsor have so far proved unsuccessful, and club chairman Graham Tatters revealed a repeat of last year’s draw, which attracted support from 39 businesses, each paying £500, is looking likely.

Tatters said the board has worked hard to provide a slightly improved playing budget for boss Ross Jack, although the success of the draw will form part of that budget.

The chairman said the board is determined to back the manager in his squad building plans over the summer, but insists they cannot risk "busting the club".

Tatters was disappointed at a blast last week in ‘The Scot’ by outgoing player Allan Dempsie, who insisted the club had not backed the manager enough last season in the push for promotion.

While Tatters did not want to comment at length on what the player said, he stressed that money made from CIS and Scottish Cup games against Hearts and Caley Thistle was used to supplement the player budget during last season, allowing the club to extend the playing contract of assistant manager Barry Wilson and recruit new faces such as Jamie Duff.

The club was unable to bring in fresh faces to cover for injuries and suspensions, although David Gormley was recruited on loan from Alloa Athletic.

Without those cup runs, Tatters admitted the club would have made a loss last season.

The chairman said refurbishment of the main function hall and repairs to the hospitality suite roof will also cost the club money.
