Edinburgh City have been deducted 15 points this season and five points next season following going into an insolvency event - They play Elgin City later this month
EDINBURGH City have been deducted 15 points by the Scottish Professional Football League following going into an insolvency event.
The League Two club, who play in the same division as Elgin City, were today deducted 15 points this season and will be deducted five points next season as per SPFL rules on clubs suffering an insolvency event.
This deduction follows a provisional liquidator being appointed in respect of the club on July 22 this year in relation to an unpaid debt due by the club.
Similar to administration, the provisional appointment of a liquidator is an insolvency event under SPFL Rules.
As a result, Edinburgh City have dropped to the bottom of League Two and are on -15 points. They will also be deducted -5 points next season as per SPFL rules.
Edinburgh City are 13 points behind Dumbarton who are on currently on -2 after they were deducted five points for going into administration last season.
In League One, Inverness Caledonian Thistle also started on -5 points for going into administration last season, but won their first League One match of the season with a 3-0 victory over Kelty Hearts on Saturday.
Edinburgh City lost their opening League Two match of the season when they went down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Stirling Albion.
In the League Cup, Edinburgh City lost three of their four matches, including a 8-0 hammering against Ross County in Dingwall.
Elgin City are due to host Edinburgh City at Borough Briggs on Saturday, August 23 in a League Two match.
