Elgin City lose third consecutive match in William Hill League Two as Edinburgh City claim victory at Borough Briggs
Elgin City produced one of their poorest home performances of the season as they lost to fellow promotion challengers Edinburgh City.
The capital side came from behind to deservedly take a win which took them above Elgin into third place.
A much-changed Elgin had Kilmarnock loan teenager Aidan Glavin back in goal, while Ross Draper came in for the injured Brian Cameron in defence and Dajon Golding was recalled, with Kyle Girvan given a rest on bench duty.
City also had trialist Calum Mackay on their list of substitutes.
The Black and Whites had a great chance to go in front inside three minutes when Russell Dingwall’s head flick sent Kane Hester in behind the Edinburgh defence but his lob over keeper Mark Weir drifted wide.
Ouzy See forced a Glavin save two minutes later, while on six minutes a dangerous run by James Stokes led to a cross which Draper intercepted, forcing Glavin to kick clear in his goalmouth.
The next big chance didn’t arrive until the 27th minute and it led to the opening goal for Elgin.
Jack MacIver floated in a free kick from deep on the left and Draper was unmarked to power a header past Weir from eight yards.
A setpiece also created Edinburgh’s equaliser five minutes before half time.
Jason Jarvis lined up the kick 25 yards from goal but fooled the home defence with a pass into the area and See turned before driving past Glavin from 12 yards.
Jake Dolzanski was booked for a foul near the edge of the box two minutes after half time but Jarvis’ kick flashed over.
Draper and Gallagher followed Dolzanski in the book as play got scrappy, but Edinburgh began to take charge of possession and Elgin breakaways were few and far between.
It was no surprise when the visitors went in front after 74 minutes, Quinn Mitchell’s ball from the back setting James Stokes clear of the offside trap to beat the advancing Glavin.
Two minutes later it took a fine stop by Glavin to deny Innes Lawson as Edinburgh chased a third.
Elgin never looked like pulling it back, although Edinburgh keeper Weir had to look lively to save a header from his own defender Josh Grigor near the end.
