Elgin City secure Spartans win in Edinburgh to cement place in play-offs in Scottish League Two

Elgin City tightened their grip on a play-off position with an impressive 2-1 win against Spartans in Edinburgh.

First half goals from Dajon Golding and Jack MacIver - his first for Elgin - were enough for City to secure all three points.

It’s the Black and Whites’ first away win for more than five months - since defeating the same opponent 3-1 at the same venue on October 19.

Golding opened the scoring in the 36th minute, set up by Russell Dingwall, and the lead was doubled by MacIver after great work by Ryan Sargent just two minutes before the break.

Jamie Dishington’s 51st minute goal got the hosts right back in the game but Allan Hale’s side held on.

After six straight defeats, City have now secured back-to-back wins, and travel to bottom-of-the-table Bonnyrigg Rose next.

Elgin now have a three-point buffer to a non-play-off place - having started the day level on points with Spartans.

Elsewhere, Peterhead moved top of the league with a 2-1 win over Stirling Albion. Edinburgh City thrashed previous leaders East Fife 5-2 to remain in the title picture.

At the bottom, an invaluable 1-0 win for Forfar means that ex-Elgin duo Jim Weir and Gavin Price’s side move up to ninth above Bonnyrigg Rose, who lost 3-1 at Clyde.
