Elgin teenager Kieran Hayllar grabs first Forres Mechanics and Highland League goal in 3-0 win at Lossiemouth

A teenager grabbed his first Highland League goal as Forres Mechanics beat Moray rivals Lossiemouth 3-0.

While forward Calum Frame, with two goals and a tremendous assist, was man of the match - it was a special day for 18-year-old Kieran Hayllar.

The Elgin local came off the bench and scored a tremendous diving header to help the Can-Cans to a comfortable win at Grant Park.

He said: "I am delighted.

"There were a couple of more chances that I had but I am chuffed with the goal."

Hayllar, a centre forward, started the move himself, playing the ball to Frame and getting himself into the middle, where he got on the end of an inch-perfect cross to a fire and diving header into the top corner.

He added: "I seen the ball coming in the sky and I thought 'if I fling my body at this it will hopefully go goalward'.

"I still don't know where in the goal it went but I've heard from the squad it was a good goal!"

The Cans had just four substitutes for the trip to Lossie and all of their outfield substitutes were teenagers.

Fellow teen Jake Newlands started the match and produced an assist for the first goal in an hour-long appearance.

Hayllar added: "The bench is young. It gives you motivation knowing that is someone goes down then you can get on and make the difference.

"Last season I went on loan to Dufftown and Islavale and got some valuable minutes in men's football.

"I've come back here and Biscuits (manager Steven MacDonald) has been great with me saying that chances are coming."

MacDonald was impressed with his young guns' showings.

"It was a fantastic goal (from Kieran)," he said.

"He started the move himself and it was a great header. He was unlucky when he crashed the upright.

"It was great to see the young boys come on and Kieran and Jake did really well.

"Jake got an assist for the first goal. I'm delighted for them.

"These young boys are definitely progressing."
