A TRIALIST and a member of the under 20s squad were on the scoresheet as Forres Mechanics beat Dufftown 6-0 away from home on Saturday.

Goals from Lee Fraser (2), Graham Fraser, Allan MacPhee, trialist Roddy Kennedy and youngster Liam Watt provided a comprehensive victory.

However, a knee injury to Owen Paterson was less welcome news for Mechanics.

The Cans only ended up playing Dufftown after the junior club were hit with a late cancellation from Strathspey Thistle but they took full advantage of the run out – despite having several players missing.

Manager Charlie Rowley was pleased with the performance and especially his younger players.

He said: “We had eight players out through injury, illness and unavailability so we called on some of the younger ones.

"We had to work hard but the scoreline didn't flatter us and we had other chances. Dufftown didn't have too many chances themselves but they were physical.

“Neil Owen and Liam Watt (from the under 20s) both got half an hour each and did OK. I would have no hesitations in throwing them if need be.

"Roddy Kennedy is lacking a bit of fitness but he showed what he is capable of with a lovely outside of the foot finish.

"The only downside is the injury concern with Owen. We think he hyper-extended his knee."

The Cans are not currently in a position to offer Roddy Kennedy, who spent last season on loan at Fort William from Inverness Caley Thistle, a contract but he will remain on trial along with Thomas Brady.

The next challenge for Mechanics comes in a closed doors friendly with Loch Ness FC tomorrow, with matches against Forres Thistle and Burghead Thistle to follow.

Rowley added: "We are expecting a fitness exercise tomorrow. We are not sure of Loch Ness' quality but appreciate them managing to fit us in and accomodate us.

"It'll be good for them to play a higher quality team under the lights.

"Hopefully we can grab a few more goals and a clean sheet."
