SIX Forres Mechanics youngsters are set to get their chance with the first team in pre-season.

The club is looking to create a firmer link between its youth set up and its first team squad.

Toby Clark, Logan De Oliveira, Sam Janousek, Lewis McIntosh, Jack Millar and Eren Duff – who are all from Forres – have been called up after good performances with the under-18 squad.

Mechanics manager Steven MacDonald said: “They’re all doing very well so I want to give them a pathway to come through.

“If they are good enough then they will get their chance.

“I think taking them into the first team shows there is a chance for them. Hopefully they enjoy the experience.

“Allan Frisken, the head of youth, and his coaches are doing a fantastic job. We’ve got a good youth set-up with more than 100 young boys – so it bodes well for the future.

“I was impressed with these six, and relied on Allan’s judgment too.

“They’re really nice lads. Their smiles were ear-to-ear when we told them they’d be moving up – they’re really excited. It’s refreshing to see that. They’re looking forward to it.”

Toby Clark and Logan De Oliveira are both defenders, with Lewis McIntosh – son of former Forres Mechanics player ---- and Sam Janousek playing in the middle of the park.

Jack Millar and Eren Duff are both forwards.

All six were part of the under-18s team that finished fourth in their division last campaign. Much of that team remains eligible to play in the league in the coming season.

Clark and Janousek both made their Forres debuts with brief substitute appearances – but for the others this will be a totally new experience.

“We need to try to build for the future,” MacDonald added.

“I think this is something the whole community wants to see. The boys’ parents were down, too, and it was really nice to see that local involvement.”

Mechanics have announced two pre-season friendlies so far – away to Nairn St Ninian on June 25 and at home to Golspie Sutherland on July 16.

In between those two games, the Cans will host Elgin City for Lee and Graham Fraser’s testimonial on July 1.

“Hopefully we will get the boys involved with those games,” MacDonald added.
