Tony and his brother Russell has been isolating together after both tested positive following City’s 1-0 win over Stirling on December 21.

The pair declared themselves fit for a place on their team’s bench against Forfar, and came on late to inspire the 1-0 win.

Tony firstly fired in a dipping free kick in stoppage time which the Forfar keeper touched over the bar for a corner. He then took the kick and planted it on the head of Darryl McHardy, who netted Elgin’s dramatic winner.

“When you come on as a sub that’s all you can do, try to come on the pitch and make an impact and get back in the team.

“After ten days that was our first day out of isolation today, as we both had Covid

“I bought a house but it’s under renovation right now so I had nowhere to go and we were both isolating at his because we both caught it at the same time.

“The gaffer said come along and sit on the bench and maybe come on late in the game to try and do something. That’s how it panned out and it worked out OK.”

While Sunday’s match was the first time Russell hasn’t started a match for City this season, Tony has served some bench time and admits his Elgin career has yet to take off.

“Since I’ve come to Elgin it’s maybe not worked out as I would want to or the gaffer either. But I came on for the last half hour down at Stirling and made an impact and we won the game there and today I came on and hit a free kick and a corner so it all worked out.”

Dingwall believes Elgin can not only stave off the spectre of relegation but push for promotion if they continue to turn their season around.

“We are not where we want to be and it’s not good enough over the first half of the season,” He said. “Looking on now, we’ve still got a chance to push up to the play-offs and that is obviously what our aim is, to secure a play-off place.

“We are five points behind Edinburgh and we play them on Friday night so we could be just two points off it if the games go our way. There is still a lot to play for this season.

“Hopefully this season we can kick on now.”
