Moray's clubs were on court to do battle in a series of derby clashes.

At Elgin Tennis Club, the women’s A team had a free week, so the focus fell on the B and C teams which are both fighting for promotion from Division 2.

The club’s second string have got off to a great start in recording two victories out of two by defeating Forres A.

Meanwhile the third team recovered from their first outing loss to notch up a win at Nairn and are sitting in second position on sets percentage.

Last Thursday produced two massive victories for the two Duff Avenue sides competing in Men’s Division 1.

A very emphatic scoreline for Keith Meisner and Tom Elwick who romped through their rubbers with a loss of only two games.

The second pair, Richard Wormold and Henry Archibald followed up by winning their two contests

Adam Macleod led his team in the defeat of Forres A, setting the ball rolling with partner Ross Jagger as their four sets were played with the overall loss of four games.

Mitchell McGrath and Duncan Jagger had closer fights on their hands. Having won the first set of the 1v1 rubber rather easily, they found themselves in a dogfight.

The second set went all the way to a tie-break which Elgin lost. The match tie-break was every bit as hard fought with McGrath and Jagger keeping their cool at 9-8 to beat their Forresian opponents

Elgin C lost out in a tight match at the Bishops Road courts in Inverness.

Jim Meisner and Iain Cameron lost the two rubbers they played but Grant Higgins and Lewis Simpson pegged the Invernessians back, but the pair crucially dropped the first set in the 2v2 match. The chance of a draw was snatched from the Elgin team.

Elgin D and Rothes B were unable to complete their fixture.

The teams had agreed on a late, 7pm, start in the hope that the match could be completed under floodlight.

In the end, the two courts that have lights were being used for another closely fought match.

However, the rules state that a result can be declared if the first round rubbers have finished. And, so it was that Elgin took the three points.

In Mixed Division 2, Elgin C lead the way with 6 points. The team recorded a great victory at home to Nairn B

Forres Tennis Club didn’t have a very successful week, losing all the senior matches played.

Lossiemouth received a walkover against Elgin C, who had team difficulties,.

And the newly promoted Lossiemouth men’s team started their Division 2 campaign in fine style with a 7-2 victory at home to Nairn A.

The coasters’ women’s team is not faring so well, being thrashed 8-0 at Grantown

Rothes Tennis Club had a series of games, not least their men's B team unable to finish their match against Forres B when 4-3 up due to floodlighting failure.

The Speysiders' mixed A team’s visit to Tain was to be an unlucky journey.

Three of the squad could not make it but those who were drafted in did very well.

Maureen Turner and 16-year-old Fraser Scott won both rubbers but they were taken to a match tie-break in both. These dropped set were to prove crucial to the final outcome as Jane Sim and Atholl Murray were unable to snatch a set off the opposition.

Meanwhile the visit of Gordonstoun resulted in a resounding victory for the homesters.
