Goalkeeper targets promotion push in SPFL League 2
Goalkeeper Tom McHale is desperate to scratch a seven year itch and be part of a promotion push this season in League 2.
The Elgin City no.1 has become a fans’ favourite in his seven years at Borough Briggs and he would like to reward the supporters with promotion.
“We came close through the play-offs a few times and especially during the Covid years, but it wasn’t to be,” he said.
“it has been hard work but I am feeling a lot better. The gaffer (Allan Hale) and Stefan demand high standards.
“Everyone has bedded in really well and look sharp.
“I want to keep as many clean sheets as I can and we are always looking at double figures.
“This year it is about keeping as many clean sheets as we can and getting points on the board.
“East Fife have had a good pre-season but we won’t go into the game fearing them.”
Olly McDonald is one of a number of attacking options Elgin have at their disposal this season following his arrival in the summer from Edinburgh City.
The Motherwell-based player signed a two year deal and has settled in well, and thanked the club for the way he and another central belt signing, Kyle Girvan, have been looked after so far.
“Players and members of staff have all been very welcoming. They have looked after us quite well and it has been very positive so far,” he said.
He picked up an injury a week into pre-season which kept him out for a fortnight and he admitted he has played catch up since then to get up to speed
Olly coaches youngsters during the day with Ultimate Soccer, so his days revolve around football.
He and Kyle have been letting the train take the strain for most of their travels so far for training, pre-season friendlies and Premier Sports Cup matches.
“It (travelling) is something we will have to get used to but I’m sure when we do, it will become second nature.”
