Royal Dornoch Golf Club has been chosen to stage the 45th Curtis Cup Match between Great Britain and Ireland and the United States of America in 2028.

The Sutherland Course will host the biennial team contest for the first time.

Royal Dornoch has an illustrious history of staging leading amateur events, including The Amateur Championship in 1985 and the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship most recently in 2023.

The R&A Women’s and Men’s Senior Amateur championships were held over the famed links in 2022, with the Vagliano and Junior Vagliano trophy matches also staged at the venue last year.

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director –Championships at The R&A, said, “We look forward to staging the Curtis Cup at such a historic venue in 2028.

“We want to give elite amateur golfers world-class platforms to show us how well they can perform and that will certainly be the case at Royal Dornoch.

The Championship Course has earned worldwide acclaim and it promises to be a wonderful occasion in the rich history of the Curtis Cup.”

Neil Hampton, General Manager at Royal Dornoch, said, “We’re proud to be chosen to host the Curtis Cup in 2028. As a Club, we want to support the highest level of amateur golf and believe our Championship Course will provide a fitting platform for the players.

“We have worked closely with The R&A on a number of championships in the past and we look forward to continuing that relationship to make it one of the best matches possible.

“The Curtis Cup is also going to be a tremendous occasion for the local area. With the Championship Course consistently ranked highly in global standings and the investment in our infrastructure as we build a new clubhouse, a match of this standing and stature will only enhance the reputation of Royal Dornoch, the town and the local area.”

The Curtis Cup is the most prestigious team trophy for women amateur golfers and contested biennially by teams representing Great Britain and Ireland and the United States.

First played in 1932, many well-known players have competed, including two-time winning Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew, Dame Laura Davies and AIG Women’s Open Champion Georgia Hall. The format is three foursomes and three fourball matches on each of the first two days, and eight singles matches on the final day.
