McHardy received scan results this week that there’s no serious damage to a knee injury which troubled him at the end of the season.

“It’s fantastic news,” said boss Price. “To be honest it is almost like getting another player for us for next season because the prognosis was that there was a likelihood he would miss the whole of next season.

“So it’s a massive boost which has helped me planning-wise what I was going to do with other players. Price has added to his defensive personnel for next season by bringing Andy McDonald back to the club on a one-year deal.

McDonald spent the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan with City from St Mirren, making 16 appearances and scoring one goal.

On being released by the Saints he made the summer switch to Stranraer in League 1 last term.

“It’s a good signing for us,” said Price. “Andy did really well for us when he was on loan from St Mirren and when he left to go to Stranraer you could see we missed him so I’m really pleased to get him.

“He’s a good footballing centre half who has had another season playing at a higher level and done well.”

Price is still trying to lure Jordan Allan back to Elgin. The left back had a season at City before switching to Stirling Albion last season, and looks set to move on again this summer with Price among his suitors.
