Midfielder McNab, who won the title with Mechanics in 2012, returned to Mosset Park this summer after nearly a decade away.

And he said he is pleased to be back at the club, with more than a handful of familiar faces from that famous title win still playing in chocolate and gold.

He said: “It’s good to be back. There are still a lot of boys that are here from when I was here the first time – so it’s not as if I’m unknown or coming in without knowing anybody.

“There are still a few faces that I know and that was part of the reason I wanted to come back. I know Charlie (Rowley, manager) and a lot of the boys.

“I know the way the team plays and getting the chance to come back after leaving Nairn, it was an opportunity I wouldn’t have turned down. It’s been a nice transition coming back in.

“It’s an excellent set up and a great club to come back to.”

The first game of the season sees McNab, who has dotted around the Highland League since leaving Mechanics, come up against one of his former sides in Wick Academy.

He hopes the players are ready to go after a stop-start pre-season, which saw wins over Nairn St Ninian and Burghead Thistle and losses to Inverness Caley Thistle and Strathspey Thistle (1-0 on Saturday).

He added: “We are just slowly phasing ourselves back in. I’m wanting to get my fitness back up and want to get that little bit sharper for the league starting, but it takes time.

“With new faces coming in, it can be difficult to gel together and know how players play. It takes a wee bit of time, but hopefully we can get that ready for the start of the season against Wick.”

On what he can bring to the squad, McNab added: “I’m always trying to develop my game and keep on improving.

“I’m 32 now, so if I can bring a bit of experience to the squad, help the younger players improve and play a good style of football then I’d be happy with that. And chip in with some goals, as well.”
