Elgin City defender Ross Draper signs contract extension as manager Allan Hale praises former Scottish Cup winner

The most experienced player in the Elgin City squad has signed a one-year contract extension.

Ross Draper, who has been with City as a player-manager and player since 2021, is now contracted to the club until summer 2026, with the option of another season.

The 35-year-old, who captained Inverness Caledonian Thistle to the Scottish Cup in 2015, has played more than 100 times for City and scored the all-important goal to keep them in League Two against Dumbarton in 2023.

Manager Allan Hale was pleased to get the deal over the line after weeks of negotiations.

“It’s something we broached with him towards the end of pre-season,” Hale said. “It has taken a bit of time to get things agreed, but there has always been a willingness to do so from all parties.

“I can’t speak highly enough of Ross. His performance levels are consistent and he has a large degree of experience, which is beneficial with the type of team we have and how young we are.

“He has been the ultimate professional and is looking fit, sharp and is influential in the dressing room. He seems like he is enjoying his football again, which is important for him.

“He looks after himself well and trains at a high level and carries that into his performances. We are delighted to have him for a year with the option of a further one.”

Elgin City are in League Two this weekend, taking on Edinburgh City at Borough Briggs.
