Elgin City hand Kane Hester immediate debut but are held to second goalless draw at Clyde in William Hill League 2 season
New signing Kane Hester couldn’t quite inspire an Elgin City win on his debut - second time round - as they fought out a goalless draw at Clyde.
Hester, fresh from penning a three-and-a-half year to complete his move from Montrose, went straight into Allan Hale’s starting line up at New Douglas Park.
Tom McHale was also back in Elgin’s goal due to Aidan Glavin being recalled from his loan by Kilmarnock.
Elgin had a scare after just four minutes when a Logan Dunachie header came off their crossbar.
Hester’s first action in the game saw him drag a shot wide of the target inside 15 minutes.
Russell Dingwall was then denied by a good save.
Clyde had a spell of pressure and McHale had to tip a Barry Cuddihy header over, while Liam Scullion fired over with Elgin staying firm to the break.
McHale did well to keep Dunachie out on a break through early in the second half.
The Elgin keeper did well to keep out a Scullion effort later in the half as both teams looked for a winner.
Clyde had a penalty claim for handball rejected, then were reduced to ten men when sub Jordan Houston was shown a straight red five minutes from time.
But there wasn’t enough time for City to capitalise on the extra man as the match fizzled out to a 0-0 draw.
Leaders East Fife moved 11 points clear of Elgin after coming from behind to score three times in the last ten minutes and defeat Edinburgh City 3-1.
City moved a point closer to second-placed Peterhead, who lost 1-0 at Spartans.
