LAST Saturday was a false start, but Keith’s new management team will finally see their team in competitive action this weekend.

Andy Roddie and Tommy Wilson will take charge of the Maroons for the first time in their Highland League opener at Inverurie.

it should have all began for the new co-bosses at Kynoch Park last week when they were due to play an Aberdeenshire Cup tie against their former club Huntly, who requested a switch to next midweek at the 11th hour.

It’s understood that Huntly wanted to begin their season on the date of the league kick-off rather than play a cup tie a week earlier.

“It was a strange one to be fair,” said Roddie. “We were looking forward to getting competitive games going and getting the season under way for the guys.

“But Huntly cancelled, and it’s disappointing that the game isn’t on a Saturday now and some of the guys may have to get off their work early to play. But we’ll just get on with it.”

Roddie admitted he and Wilson will consult club captain Cammy Keith and new director of football Michael Brown for advice before picking their team to face Inverurie.

“We’ve seen them in a few sessions and a couple of games so we have a good idea of who can do what,” he said.

“We will use guys like Cammy and Muggsy (Brown) and their opinions in terms of who is better in the strongest positions and what they have seen, since they have been a lot longer at the club than we have, and we will take everything into account.”

Previous boss Dean Donaldson took in players Dem Yunas and Liam Duncan from Cove Rangers over the summer, and signed defender Calum Porteous up for his second spell at the Maroons.

All three come into the squad, with Roddie saying he has no injury worries for the Locos trip.
