The 31-year-old has gained a reputation as one of the best keepers in the Highland League.

He came through the County youth ranks and had a loan spell at Brora Rangers, before making the permanent move to Wick Academy.

Six successful years with the Caithness club prompted a move by then-Rothes manager Ross Jack to take him to Mackessack Park, where he has spent the past five seasons.

Mechanics manager Steven MacDonald made his move this week, and the club announced the signing on their Facebook page

“Sean is a highly talented and experienced ‘keeper, having made 137 appearances for the Speysiders since his signing from Wick Academy in 2020.

“Sean’s talent really came to the fore last season, with numerous man of the match awards, culminating in being voted both player’s player and fan’s player of the year.

“Everyone at the club is delighted to have secured Sean’s signature, and look forward to having him in the squad for next season.”

McCarthy was kept busy last season in a Rothes side which finished bottom of the Highland League and conceded 151 goals in all competitions.
