MORAY will be firmly on the indoor bowls map this weekend when the final of the Scottish Indoor Bowling Association’s Ladies Premier League is staged in Ayrshire.

The Elgin bowling ladies have reached the Premier League final.

The women from the Elgin indoor stadium stormed through the North Premier League with eight wins out of eight to see off rivals Aberdeen, Arbroath, Turriff and Garioch.

Their winning run continued in the semi finals when they took on reigning champions Auchinleck, who were unbeaten winners of the South Premier League.

In a very closely-contested match held in Falkirk, Elgin dug deep to emerge with a 65-56 victory and a landmark achievement.

“It’s the first time in the history of the club we’ve made it to the final,” said Amy Barker, one of the squad’s skips.

“We made it to semi finals two seasons ago and narrowly missed out by four shots to Glasgow, who we face on tomorrow."

Auchinleck will host Saturday’s showpiece match against the Glaswegian ladies, who won the West Premier League with an identical 100 per cent record to Elgin’s.

The Elgin team is managed by Sandra Dean and Melanie Darroch, who also skips along with Barker and Ailsa Robertson.
