AFTER soaking up relentless home pressure in the second half at Christie Park, Lossiemouth players were “devastated” to slip to defeat when they conceded a goal in the final minute of added time.
Boss Joe Russell said his team deserved a point from the trip to Huntly last Saturday, and seeing Gavin Elphinstone fire in a late winner was hard to take.
“For 60 minutes we were probably the better team, but Huntly got momentum and we were camped on our 18-yard box and couldn’t get the ball,” he added.
Ryan Stuart had put Lossie into a 26th minute lead, only for Glenn Murison to bullet in a headed equaliser before half-time.
“We started very positively as the boys are full of confidence. I thought we were the better team by far in the first half and created loads of chances,” said Russell.
“We were hoping to see the game out towards the end but Huntly did have a lot of possession and forced us further and further back.”
Lossie will look to inflict a first league defeat of the season on visitors Wick Academy tomorrow at Grant Park and could have experienced striker Martin Charlesworth in the squad for the first time this season.
He trained for the first time this week after being given some parental time off following a second arrival in the Charlesworth household.
Russell said: “He looked sharp last night (Tuesday). He has kept himself fit while he has been away.”
Meanwhile, the Lossie boss was urging his players to look no further ahead than Wick on Saturday, and put Wednesday night’s North of Scotland Cup quarter final against Fort William to the back of their minds.
Ross Archibald will miss the Wick game as he is attending a wedding.
