What Elgin City’s assistant manager said about 3-3 draw with Edinburgh City as failure to kill rivals off and ‘horrendous’ defending cost Borough Briggs men victory

Elgin City assistant manager Stefan Laird pulled no punches in his assessment of his team’s 3-3 draw with Edinburgh City.

With boss Allan Hale banned after receiving a red card against Clyde a week earlier, Laird took charge of Saturday’s Borough Briggs clash and said it was a real rollercoaster of emotions.

He was critical of his team’s first half display as they went in at the break a goal down - watch video interview below.

Laird gave some harsh words during the interval and praised his team’s reaction with an “excellent” second half display to turn the contest around.

But the loss of a sloppy second goal, and a painful stoppage time equaliser drew more criticism.

“The most important thing is to stay in this league,” he said. “But if the club wants to graduate beyond those ambitions, we can’t concede goals like that.

“We didn’t kill the game off when we were in total and complete control. We paid the price with some horrendous defending.”
