Elgin City manager Allan Hale says William Hill League 2 victory over Bonnyrigg Rose wasn’t most complete performance but was biggest win of Borough Briggs club’s season so far

Elgin City’s biggest win of their season so far wasn’t the prettiest, according to manager Allan Hale.

The 3-0 success at home to Bonnyrigg Rose on Tuesday signalled the arrival of striker Kane Hester, who scored his first two goals since returning to the Borough Briggs club in the January transfer window.

Speaking after the match, Hale declared the result to be a “good night’s work” with the margin of victory and his team’s third consecutive defensive clean sheet.

But he added: “I don’t think it was the most complete performance. I don’t think it was pretty at times.

“But we’ve got three goals, we kept a clean sheet and we got three points.”

Hale spoke about the contribution of big money signing Hester, and said there was a more ruthless side to City’s performance.

“That’s something that’s been labelled about us, that we don’t kill teams off,” he said. “It’s something that we’ve spoken about in our analysis and Saturday was an example of that with the chances we had (against East Fife).

“(Against Bonnyrigg) we were clinical with our chances and that’s what we are asking the group to be.”
