Weir (52) recently assisted Price at Elgin's last home match, a 3-1 win over Stirling Albion that halted a run of five straight defeats, and will stay on to support the manager over their last eight matches of the current campaign.

He will work alongside Price - who was his assistant when Weir was City manager for a three year period - and assistant manager Steven 'Sid' Mackay and goalkeeping coach Stevie Dunn.

He told the club's website: "I'm delighted to be back involved with the club.

"It's always been the first result I looked for on a Saturday and regularly spoke to Gavin after games.

"The board and supporters have always been very supportive. Looking forward to offering support to Gavin, Sid, Stevie and the players with the experience I have gained."

Former St Johnstone legend Weir is Elgin's most successful manager in over 20 years of Scottish League football.

He joined the club in November 2014 when they were bottom of the league and steered them to safety.

The following season Elgin were top of League 2 for much of the campaign before being pipped to the title by East Fife, then losing out to Clyde in the promotion play-offs.

The Black and Whites just missed out on the play-offs in Weir's second full season, and in October 2017 he was lured to the management vacancy at Forfar who were in League 1 at the time.

Price initially agreed to continue as Weir's assistant at Forfar but had a change of heart when he was offered the Elgin manager's position, which he has held since.

Elgin won 53 and lost 49 of the 126 league and cup games Weir was in charge of.

He bossed the club through 95 league matches, winning 41 and losing 32.

Price said: "I'm delighted to have Jim back in the dug out.

"He is a close friend, and has always been someone I have had the upmost respect and trust for.

"Jim has been helping us out the last couple of weeks as we have had our own backroom Covid issues and really enjoyed it.

"I am glad we have managed to persuade Jim back into the fold, his experience in the game will compliment the great work Steven Mackay and Stevie Dunn are doing already, giving us a really strong and experienced back room staff."
