Buckie Ladies eye League Cup hat-trick as final looms
There is a quiet confidence among the Buckie Ladies camp as they approach this Saturday’s Highlands and Islands League Cup final.
The Grant Park side will face Sutherland in Golspie in a bid to make it a hat-trick of cup wins.
Last year saw Buckie humble Caithness 3-1 while the previous year, they first laid hands on the silverware after a thrilling penalty shoot-out decider again Saturday’s opponents.
The side had the perfect preparation for the big game on Sunday when they cantered to a 7-1 win against Caithness, their last home league game of the season.
Buckie manager Laura Duncan said she has every confidence in her charges to bring home the silverware.
She said: “I’m feeling quietly confident we can win on Saturday.
“It’s our biggest match of the season and as things stand the results between us are even - won one, drawn one and lost one. All of the games were very close.
“The game being played in Golspie does give them a big advantage and is easier for their supporters to get there, but we’re looking to take a bus-load of supporters up with us.
“Sutherland are a big, physical side but I think our result on Sunday against Caithness - who’re also a tough side to play against - will have sent a very strong statement to Sutherland.
“We were very clinical against Caithness and if we keep on playing the same way we have been against Sutherland there’s no reason why we can’t lift the cup again.”
Apart from an injury to Michaela Munro and striker Jess Moore being cup-tied Duncan has a full squad to chose from on Saturday.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 2.30pm at King George V Park in Golspie. Seats may still be available on the supporters’ bus - message Buckie Ladies’ Facebook page for availability and for match updates.
