LOSSIEMOUTH got off the bottom of the Highland League with victory over Fort William and are now looking up instead of over their shoulder.

Assistant boss Ian Campbell has challenged his side to catch some of the teams above them before the end of the season.

The 2-0 win at Grant Park - Lossie were handed home advantage when Fort switched the game due to the state of their Claggan Park - lifted them above the visitors.

After a drab opening 45 minutes, second half strikes from Kyle Willis and captain Liam Archibald secured the points and moved Lossie three points clear of Fort.

Campbell said: “We have played a lot better and got beat. We knew we were expected to win this game and that’s us off the bottom so we are delighted.

“We changed the shape at half-time. We went to 4-4-1-1 to get Willis more in the game and it worked with him getting a quality goal.”

The signing of centre half Tom Palmer has allowed skipper Liam Archibald to move forward into midfield and it paid off when he bundled in a late second goal.

“We have been toiling at centre half and it was a case of being patient until we got somebody in,” admitted Campbell.

“The big centre half Tom has come in and hasn’t looked out of place in his first two games in the Highland League.

“We are hoping to get a few more points this season. Turriff away is a big game for us now.

“I set the boys a target of 12 points before the Buckie game until the end of the season.

“Every game we have coming up we have a chance of winning.”

RAF driver Palmer (22), a former Peterborough Utd under-23 player, is enjoying his start to life at Lossiemouth.

“I have just come into the team the last few weeks. I thought the boys played well and gelled together.

“We are in a rough place at the moment but hopefully we can get out of it.”

Palmer has been based at nearby RAF Lossiemouth for the last seven months where his job is to refuel the Typhoon fast jets.

He believes there is great potential at Lossiemouth.

“I see them in training and a lot of the boys have real potential and give it two years and I think we will be up there closer to the title race.

“I just want to get back playing football and fully fit.”
