A CONDITION in Forres Mechanics' agreement with their squad is that they sign for the Moray club next term when the club resumes league business after a campaign in abeyance.

Several Cans players have already been snapped up by other clubs.

Ryan Farquhar and Aaron Hamilton joined Deveronvale this week, Joe Gauld has moved to Huntly and James Ross has made a switch to North Caledonian League side Golspie Sutherland.

Owen Paterson has dropped down to the juniors with Forres Thistle for a season and Allan MacPhee is understood to be interesting Clachnacuddin.

Forres elected to take a season out due to growing Covid-19 concerns, and refused to loan any of their squad out to other teams.

“With the stance that the club have had they couldn’t loan them out,” said manager Charlie Rowley. “So if anybody wanted to play, they had to be released from their contract.

“The players that wanted to carry on playing were released and it was up to them to find a club.

“The ones that have been released, they have all verbally agreed to come back next year. I do trust them and I would be really disappointed in them if any of them reneged on that.”

“In Ryan Farquhar’s case, he has been out injured for so long and to miss another half season wouldn’t be in his best interests.”

Rowley said he has received positive feedback from his squad in terms of being part of the Mechanics set up for a renewed challenge in season 2021-22.

Farquhar has been joined at Deveronvale by defender Hamilton, who is the only player who expressed his desire to leave Forres and find another club permanently, and his release was granted.
