Maroons in disarm offensive
FACING up to the goal power of Cammy Keith instead of enjoying the benefits of his clinical finishing is the challenge which faces Keith boss Darren Still this weekend.
But Still insists there will be no misplaced loyalties when the Maroons line up against their former strike hero on Saturday, wearing the colours of new club Formartine United.
After a goal-laden career at Kynoch Park during which he notched 182 counters in 222 appearances, Cammy made the summer move to league rivals Formartine in the summer, and has picked up where he left off with more goals for the Pitmedden big-spenders.
On Saturday, at United’s North Lodge Park, the striker will play against Keith for the first time, with his old boss insisting his former team-mates will be ready for him.
“I probably know more about Cammy than he knows himself, in all honesty,” manager Still joked. “And he’s very friendly with a number of our players, considering the length of time he was here.
“But once the game starts on Saturday, that will have no bearing and the boys will be determined to put one over him.”
The Maroons warmed up for their tough Formartine test with a sparkling first-half performance last Saturday at home to Rothes, winning 5-0 with all the goals coming in that first 45 minutes.
Still was thrilled by his team’s merciless display to kill the game off by half-time, though admitted he was perhaps harsh on his team for not adding to the scoring after the interval.
“Maybe I was a little bit over-critical on the guys when I was not happy with the second-half performance. I thought we took the foot off the gas, but that’s maybe human nature in the circumstances.
“I was certainly very happy with a 5-0 win. We played really, really well in that first half and were ruthless in our finishing.”
