Brodie Castle 10k race provides great scenery for runners as Forres Harriers attract 400-strong entry





An iconic Moray landmark was the incentive to push for the finish line at a recent run.

Sunday’s Brodie Castle 10k, organisers by Forres Harriers, drew a full entry of 400 with 324 reaching the end.

Conditions got a bit soggy in places but the event was another big success, with East Sutherland Athletics Club’s Shaun Cumming winning in a time of 31.43.

Metro Aberdeen’s Scott Melville was around 40 seconds behind in second place and unattached runner Alex Geddes was third.

Host club Forres was well represented with young member Bruce Evans coming fourth, while team-mate Hilary Cameron was first in the female 50+ category and Jackie Nicol the first female 60+ to the finish.

Winner of the women’s race was Moray Road Runners’ Louise Cartmell (38.32) with Deveron Harriers’ Fiona Spencer second.

MRR also had the first under-20 athlete to the finish with Alisdair Jenkins claiming his category prize.

And the Elgin-based club had the first men’s 50+ runner in Scott Sharman.

Former Highland League footballer Scott Miller showed he has maintained his fitness by coming in seventh in the race in 35.37.

The organisers thanked all of their volunteers, Brodie Castle and Estates NTS for allowing the race to be run in their grounds.
