Moray’s 11-year-old tennis star wins Montrose tournament on way to representing the North of Scotland in UK team event





A Moray primary schoolgirl representing the north of Scotland on the UK tennis scene has won her latest tournament.

Calleigh McConnell (11) heads down to Nottingham this week to play for the north team in the UK Inter County team event.

On her way south, the youngster, who has represented Elgin and Rothes in the Highlands tennis league, headed to Montrose to take part in a competition.

She played in the North Angus competition and emerged as winner of the 12-and-under girls singles.

This season she has played for Rothes in the senior women’s Highland tennis league.

Last year, Calleigh also helped the north county team finish top of their Scottish regional group, beating the west and south teams to progress to the finals in Boston, Lincolnshire against other British county sides.
