Elgin City suffer more defensive injury worries as defeat to Edinburgh City takes Black and Whites off top spot in League 2

Elgin City slipped to third spot with defeat in Edinburgh, and added to their injury worries.

The Black and Whites went down 1-0 to hosts Edinburgh City at a windy Meadowbank.

James Stokes’ strike just after half time consigned Elgin to their third defeat in four games.

And with East Fife and Peterhead both winning elsewhere, they climbed back above Elgin in the League 2 table.

Allan Hale’s side are now two points off top spot and just four ahead in third of Edinburgh, who have a game in hand.

Already decimated by injury, Elgin had to make do without left back Lyall Booth for the first time this season.

And their defensive woes continued when centre back Jack Murray had to go off early in the contest after colliding with the home keeper.
