ELGIN’S New Club 1 have been awarded the Moray snooker team championship title after the season was called to a halt.

The Ian Mackenzie Joinery-sponsored season concluded with the remaining fixtures being cancelled.
The league committee met to discuss the fact that indoor team sports were recommended to cease and took the decision, based on a number of factors, to award the league title to the Elgin outfit.
Throughout the season, the New Club 1 had beaten each of the other teams in the league fairly convincingly and had a 12-point lead in the race for the title with only three matches to play.
Their most impressive win was a 12-3 victory over four-time and reigning league champions Forres Legion 1.
Adam Macleod (New Club 1) was the player of the season recording a 93 per cent win average (14 out of 15 frames won) and recorded the season’s high break of 54. Macleod’s team-mates in the New Club squad, Mark Bell and Raymond Mackenzie both won 13 out of 15 frames over the league season.
The season’s other major competitions all managed to reach completion.
Marc Davis (Aberdeen) defeated Adam Macleod (Moray) in the Moray open snooker singles final and Stephen Hepburn (Forres Legion 2) overcame Alex Cooper (Forres Legion 1) in the Moray closed snooker singles final.
Both finals went to deciding frames showing how tight the competitive standard is in this area.
The committee also took the decision to cancel the Moray snooker team championship 2020/21 and restart this competition in October 2021.
In the meantime and to fill the snooker void, there will be the North of Scotland snooker singles series which will run under Covid restrictions between now and the team league restart.
