MIKEY Watson was Dufftown’s hat-trick hero as the Toonsers finally picked up a first league win of the season.

Life has been tough in Division 1 for Dufftown since they were relegated from the Superleague last term, and they dropped to bottom spot after failing to win any of their first five league games.

The visit of a previously unbeaten Fraserburgh United to Westburn Park on Saturday did not bode well for the Moray side getting off the mark, but they rose to the occasion in fine style.

Watson struck in the first half as the scores were tied at 1-1 after 45 minutes, and the striker added two more after the interval to seal his team’s maiden victory.

The win also took Jim Stables’ side off the foot of the table.

Forres Thistle rescued victory from two goals down for the second game running to go six points clear at the top of Division 2.

Jags made it six wins out of six with a 4-3 success over Glentanar.

Their trip to Aberdeen didn’t start well, with a home cross skimmed off the head of a Forres defender it and fell for Greg Wood to fire home on five minutes.

Forres were in real trouble five minutes later when Wood set up Dylan Henderson to make it 2-0.

The visitors were thrown a lifeline just before half time as Craig Robertson’s throw was flicked on by Sean McIntosh for Matty Fraser to score his ninth of the season.

Jags were level six minutes after the break and it was player-boss Tony Ross who netted his first of the campaign with a near post volley from Mattie Davidson’s cross.

Davidson then shot Forres into the lead for the first time on 73 minutes.

Back came Glentanar to equalise four minutes later through a Stuart Martin strike to once again endanger Jags’ 100 per cent league record.

But on 84 minutes Grant Duguid picked the perfect time to open his scoring account for the season, turning on Charlie Beck’s corner to net what proved to be the winner.

Also in Division 2, Islavale’s clash with New Elgin and Burghead Thistle’s trip to Cromdale to face Spey Valley United were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
