Pele's boys crush Cammy-kaze City
FORMER Elgin City boss Steve 'Pele' Paterson masterminded Formartine United's shock 5-1 Ramsdens Cup win over his old club on Wednesday night.
A ten minute hat-trick from ex-Keith striker Cammy Keith floored ten man Elgin, who had goalscorer Sean Crighton red carded in a game changing moment at North Lodge Park.
'Pele's boys now move into the quarter-finals of the competition in their first year competing, while Elgin manager Ross Jack was left to reflect on his team's fourth consecutive defeat this season.
“To say it hurts is an understatement,” said Jack, who locked his team in the away dressing room after the match to deliver some 'home truths'.
“We really have to dig deep now because everybody is writing us off. This game is gone, and we have to focus on Peterhead now (Saturday's league game).
It started so well for City when Crighton headed them in front after six minutes, but a Jamie Duff mistake was punished when Neil McVitie squared for Michael Ewen to level on the quarter hour mark.
Both Dennis Wyness and Shane Sutherland hit the post for City while Duff had an effort cleared off the line during the remainder of the first half.
The contest swung Formartine's way when Crighton blocked a McVitie shot with his arm and was shown a red card, with the penalty being converted by Keith on 51 minutes.
Within ten minutes the striker had scored twice more against a demoralised City, whose misery was compounded in the final minute when Craig McKeown's free kick was deflected in for goal number five.
