Elgin Five Day Open qualifying rounds come to a close

THE qualifying rounds at Elgin's Five Day Open have come to a close – with a competitive field being whittled down ahead of matchplay action starting.
In total, 114 men and 16 ladies posted scores on both Monday and Tuesday.
Sixteen men will go on to compete in the Scratch Matchplay, with 32 going into each of the Handicap 1 and 2 competitions. Four women have qualified for Scratch and Handicap Matchplays respectively.
In the Gents Aggregate Gross, former Forres Mechanics midfielder and 2020 champion Jordan Milne led the way by five shots – posting a 69 and a 70.
Alan Duncan finished in second place, with Michael Mann and Elgin City midfielder Rory MacEwan tied for third. Danny Edwards, 2018's champion, was tied for fifth.
The Gents Aggregate Nett was won by Ross Campbell (handicap 28) who finished a whopping 19 shots clear, having posted nett scores of 58 and 59.
Scott McRitchie (19 handicap) came in second with a nett score of 68 on both days, while James Tough and Martin Stringfellow tied for third.
The Ladies Aggregate Gross and Nett were both led by Louise Marshall, who was seven clear of Shona Leese in the Gross and one ahead of Barbara Lock in the Nett.
