Highland League round-up: Buckie Thistle lose 4-1 after red card at Brora Rangers while Deveronvale down Forres Mechanics and former Lossiemouth player does dirty on old team
Highland League champions Buckie Thistle endured a miserable day after a 4-1 defeat at Brora Rangers.
The Cattachs struck early through Jordan MacRae and James Wallace made it 2-0 at the break.
Last week’s Scottish Cup hero Darryl McHardy was sent off for a second booking and Michael Finnis nodded Brora further ahead on 74 minutes.
MacRae’s second made it 4-0 on 90 minutes with Marcus Goodall scoring a stoppage time consolation for the ten men visitors.
Jags are now 18 points behind unbeaten leaders Brechin City, who won 1-0 at Turriff United thanks to Brad McKay’s second half strike - City had Seth Patrick sent off in the later stages.
Deveronvale were 3-1 winners at Forres Mechanics, with Jordan Alonge on target for Cans to quickly cancel out Adam Reid’s 29th minute Vale opener. Mikey Watson and Jack Mitchell clinched it for the visitors.
Brodie Allen scored the winning goal for Huntly against former club Lossiemouth.
Angus Grant’s 15th goal of the season had the home side ahead after quarter of an hour, Brandon Hutcheon levelled before half time and Allen got the winner on the hour.
Rothes’ poor run continued with a 4-0 loss at home to Clach with Connor Bunce, Harry Nicolson, Josh Meekings and Jack Davison getting the Lilywhites goals.
Keith went down by the same scoreline at Fraserburgh. Aidan Sopel, Marley Sweenie-Rowe, Scott Barbour and Sean Butcher were on target for the Buchan side.
Banks o’ Dee won 4-1 at Strathspey Thistle, who at one point had levelled through Kieran Duffy but goals by Andy Hunter, Iain Vigurs, Michael Philipson and Lachie MacLeod eased the Aberdeen side to victory.
In the early match, Inverurie Locos went down 3-2 at home to Nairn County.
Paul Coutts’ penalty edged Locos in front just after half time but Nairn quickly replied through Andrew Greig and further goals by Calum MacLean and Matty Wright had them clear in front before Calum Dingwall got one back in stoppages.
Formartine United came from behind to defeat Wick Academy 2-1. Gordy MacNab netted for the Caitness men, Aidan Combe and Tyler Mykyta replied for United.
