Chairman Iain Paul said a series of heavy defeats led to the Speysiders dismissing their boss after 14 months at the helm.

Bremner was dismissed on Wednesday night after a run of eight losses in Rothes’ last nine outings.

Before then, he had led the club to tenth spot after four victories by the beginning of October.

In a club statement, Paul said: “The board wish to place on record their thanks to Fraser for his contribution in helping stabilize the club over the past 14 months.

“Over this period with increased investment, Fraser virtually rebuilt the team and helped bring improvement in both performance and points in the first half of this season.

“Since then however we have suffered several heavy defeats and have found ourselves dropping down the league again with results well below our expectations.

“With the club having demonstrated continuous improvement off the park since August 2015, after considerable local support and investment, the board decided that a management change was needed to achieve our long term targets on the park in line with our ambitious 5 year plan.

“We wish Fraser all the very best with his future football opportunities.”

Paul confirmed that the club’s head of football, Derek Thomson will be in charge as caretaker boss for Friday night’s match at home to Fraserburgh.

Bremner’s assistant manager Nathan Sharp will assist Thomson until a new manager is appointed.

In tomorrow's Northern Scot, Fraser Bremner speaks exclusively about his Rothes sacking.
