Around 100 runners put their best foot forward to take on the route which followed the coast to the finish line at the viaducts in Cullen.

The first name on the trophy was Matthew Brennan in 2.54.20, while Jane Klimas became the first woman to finish the race, clocking 3.19.46.

The event ran alongside the existing 50 mile challenge, which attracted in the order of 70 runners. Taking the tape in a time of 6.23.09 was defending champion John Anderson, with Skye Kenny the first female runner to cross the line, recording a time of 7.31.20.

Race organiser Kyle Greig said: “Both races were really amazing, we’re all really pleased with how it all went.

“The new 23 mile race proved very popular and it’s nice to have that shorter distanced on offer. We had a piper seeing the runners off from Lossie bridge. By this time some of the 50 mile runners were going past so it made for a busier route and finish at Cullen, which was great.

“Both races were well-supported in the communities they passed through on their way to the finish and I’d like to thank everyone whop turned out to encourage the runners.”

Greig added that the 23 mile race would definitely be on next year’s programme with details already available on the Moray Coastal Trails Races website.
