The long trip south was rewarded with a sparkling City show, making it three straight wins in competitive football this season.

Manager Gavin Price made one change to the team which picked up a 2-0 Betfred Cup win at Montrose in midweek, recalling striker Kane Hester in place of Josh Peters.

The visitors took just nine minutes to go in front, Russell Dingwall crashed the ball home from a Smart Osadolor pass after neat play to create the chance.

Just two minutes after half time Hester doubled the north side's advantage from Brian Cameron's through ball.

It was 3-0 on 65 minutes, Conor O'Keefe adding to his first strike for the club in midweek by converting from a Dingwall pass.

Tom Devitt gave the home side some hope with a headed goal on 77 minutes to reduce the deficit.

But it was all over three minutes later when Hester was upended in the box by Stranraer's Kieran Miller, who was sent off.

Dingwall slotted home from the spot for his third goal of the season to seal the win.

Edinburgh City went top on day one after a 5-1 win over Brechin City.

Elgin are second while Annan won 3-0 at Cowdenbeath, Stenhousemuir defeated hosts Albion 3-1 and Stirling held Queen's park to a goalless draw.

Next Saturday Elgin are at home to Brechin, looking to clock up their fourth consecutive victory of the campaign so far.

Elgin: McHale, Cooper, Spark, McDonald, Bronsky, Mailer (MacEwan 60), Dingwall, Cameron, Hester (Peters 87), Osadolor (Sopel 82), O'Keefe (Wilson 86).

Subs: McHardy, MacBeath, Loveland, Kelly.
