FISHING, tennis, bowls and golf – they’re all back on the sporting calendar in Moray.
The easing of Covid-19 restrictions by the Scottish Government last week gave the green light for certain sports to resume, providing the necessary safety measures were put in place.
It gave the green light for Elgin Tennis Club to begin singles matches at their safety-prepared Duff Avenue courts, while bookings are also being taken for the club’s Cooper Park all-weather facility.
Sadly for the Moray club, this year’s North of Scotland tennis championships, which traditionally take place at Duff Avenue, have fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic. The Lawn Tennis Association only announced this week that despite the return to court action across Scotland, July was too soon for a major championships to be held.
Bowlers were out in force for the reopening of greens across the area.
Members of Moray Bowling Club returned to action on Saturday afternoon along with the rest of the Elgin greens.
Lossiemouth Bowling Club rolled out their first game at noon on the same day with Susan, Robbie and Graham McSheffrey taking part in a family match.
A club spokesperson said: “It was great to see a few members taking the opportunity to throw a few bowls on the first day of our outdoor season during these unprecedented times.”
Angling was once again permitted in the Spey and at Glen of Rothes Fishery, who reported seeing many returning members as well as some new faces, some landing 30 fish each on the first day back on Friday.
