SHOW your true colours and you will challenge for the title is Ross Jack’s message to his Elgin City squad.
The Borough Briggs club remain at the wrongend of the League 2 table despite earning their first point of the season at Peterhead, but Saturday’s draw has given manager Jack cause for optimism.
He remains confident that once everything clicks into place with his team, they will climb the league and take up a more familiar position in the challenging pack.
“We’ve got to keep believing that we are good enough. We’ve still to find our true form and our best eleven with everyone fit and available,” he said.
“Once we do that we will definitely be right up there amongst the top boys, there’s no question of that. I’ve still got loads to come from some of the players, they know that.
“There’s teams out there at the moment that in my opinion are as strong as they are going to get. Once we have everyone available, we will be strong.”
Elgin looked on course for their first league win at Balmoor Stadium when they led Peterhead 2-0 with 15 minutes left to play, only for the home team to stage a late comeback and snatch a point.
The Black and Whites still did enough to prove they had overcome the embarrassment of their 5-1 Ramsdens Cup loss at Highland League Formartine United, a result manager Jack viewed as a “freak” outcome given the circumstances of the tie.
He wants his men to take confidence from their battling show in Buchan and go one better by registering their first league victory at home to Clyde this weekend.
“It’s early, early days yet. We’ve got over the freak result and we really battled away on Saturday. Now we’ve got to build on it and keep believing.
“It felt like a defeat at the time, but we’re on the board now, and we’ll take the positives from it and look forward to this weekend’s game.
“We can make a hard-earned point a brilliant point by going out and getting a win against Clyde.”
Jack handed a league debut at Peterhead to Georgian youngster Dachi Khutsishvili, who played as a trialist with a view to signing the former Caley Thistle player permanently.
Khutsishvili is out of contract, meaning he could still be signed after the transfer window closes on Monday, and is eligible to make a second trial appearance this weekend.
