The midfielder, nicknamed 'Soapy' after his dad Graeme, who also starred for City, was out of contract at the end of the current season but has signed a three-year extended deal.

Cameron (29) has come through all the youth ranks at Elgin, breaking into the first team in the 2007-08 season.

He made his debut as substitute in a 5-1 home defeat to Stenhousemuir, aged just 16.

City's last match in the Scottish Cup against Civil Service Strollers on Boxing Day was Cameron's 427th appearance for the club in all competitions.

He holds the appearance record for the Black and Whites in their Scottish League era, and is also City's third top goalscorer in senior football with 79 goals.

Elgin manager Gavin Price also signed goalkeeper Tom McHale, defender Matthew Cooper, midfielders Russell Dingwall and Aidan Sopel and striker Kane Hester on extended deals this season.
