Elgin City seal a quick return for Shane Sutherland
SHANE Sutherland has returned to Elgin City on a one-year deal.
The 28-year-old is City boss Gavin Price's fifth signing of the summer and by far their highest profile.
Sutherland (28) left Elgin in January to join Peterhead, winning the League 2 title with the Buchan outfit.
But it is understood that the Moray-based player struggled with the travel involved and was transfer-listed by Peterhead.
Cove Rangers and Stenhousemuir were linked with a move for Sutherland but Elgin, after having an initial bid turned down by Blue Toon, won the race to sign the attacker.
He was set to play for Elgin in a friendly match against Jeanfield Swifts on Saturday but was pulled out of the team due to uncertainty over his registration at the time.
Sutherland had had three previous spells at Borough Briggs including a loan period while playing for first club Caley Thistle in 2010.
He moved permanently to Elgin in 2013, scoring 27 goals in two seasons before switching to Peterhead for a season.
On returning to the Black and Whites, Sutherland had the best year of his career, scoring 24 goals by February before picking up a serious knee injury.
He won the League 2 player of the year despite missing the last three months, and after undergoing cruciate ligament surgery.
Following a year out of action he scored five goals in seven starts in 2017-18, while last term he finished City's top scorer with 11 goals despite leaving for Peterhead in January.
Elgin have paid a fee believed to be in the region of £5000 to bring the forward back to spearhead their challenge for the coming campaign.
Manager Price has also signed defenders Andy McDonald and Euan Spark and midfield pair Rory MacEwan and Conor O'Keefe.
He is on the trail of another midfielder with ex-Ross County man Russell Dingwall on his radar, while another former Dingwall player Ross MacIver has been training with the club but will attend trials with Motherwell later this month.
