It was the home side that opened the scoring in the first minute when Moray were penalised for not releasing and the straightforward kick made it 3-0.

A short period of stalemate was broken in the 13th minute when some slick Moray handling led to an unconverted try by centre Lewis Small.

Craig Dunain retook the lead nine minutes later with a converted try and their lead was extended to 13-5 a few minutes later when the visitors were penalised for a high tackle.

Both sides were falling foul of the high tackle law but it was Moray who were now putting together a more cohesive game resulting in four tries in fairly quick succession.

The first, following a turnover and good handling, was finished off by winger Ben Roberts. This was followed soon after by number two when prop Jake Devlin breezed over under the posts.

Hooker Finlay Paton and lock Hugh Macrae added two more and with scrum half Iain Stuart converting three out of four, giving Moray a 31-13 half time advantage.

Five minutes into the second half Moray were on the scoreboard again, firstly when full back Rory Millar scored out wide and almost immediately after when the restart was gathered and the ball moved skilfully to centre Ewan Simpson for try number seven and a 41-13 lead.

Moray’s excellent handling belied the cold conditions and this was rewarded three minutes later when the ball was transferred to wing Lewis Hogg to score out wide. Kicker Stuart made no mistake with the tricky conversion.

The Inverness side were finding it difficult to get back into the game but several penalties against Moray in their own 22 resulted in a converted try for the home team.

The last ten minutes saw the visitors add to their tally with tries by prop John Westmacott and two from stand-off Blair Garrick. Full back Millar took over the kicking duties and converted all three to make the score 20-69.

The game ended as it had begun with a score from the home team, an unconverted try and a final score of ICD 25 Moray 2nds 69.

The visiting spectators had been treated to a very entertaining 14-try rugby extravaganza and Moray’s victory sees them move up their league. Their next match is away to Orkney on the January 11.
