Elgin City defender Jack Murray was Borough Briggs club’s match-winner against Stranraer to become top goalscorer and continue a strike tally which saw him score 26 for Highland League champions Buckie Thistle last season

Jack Murray was thrilled to be Elgin City’s goal hero for the second weekend running.

The centre back netted the only goal of City’s 1-0 win over Stranraer on Saturday, heading home Kian Leslie’s cross inside two minutes.

A week earlier he struck late with an 88th minute header to keep Elgin in the Scottish Cup against Clyde, then going on to score a penalty in the shootout which the Black and Whites won.

The man who scored 26 goals for Buckie Thistle in their Highland League title-winning season last term has made the step up to SPFL football in impressive fashion.

Saturday’s goal makes him the Moray club’s top scorer on six goals and he spoke about being thrilled with the start he has made in League 2 football.

Four league goals and two cup strikes in 17 outings represent a fine effort in the opposition penalty area, while he also helped Allan Hale’s side to their fourth clean sheet of the campaign at the weekend.
