The annual race has not featured in Tomintoul for three years as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, organisers have announced that the sixth running of the multi-terrain event, which boasts some breathtaking scenery, will return on June 19.

Entries are now being accepted for the Tomintoul Distillery sponsored race which starts and finishes in the village.

Organiser Tony Birchall is hoping to see a good turnout for the event's return.

"It's been three years since we've put on an event so it'll be good to get back," he said.

"We normally get 90 to 100 entries but we're not sure what the turnout will be like this year.

"At present we have about 45 online entries and we usually get around 20 on the day.

"We've got a wee bit to go yet so hopefully we'll get a few more and we'll see a really good turnout.

"We're still open for entries so if anybody wants to run on the day and wants to experience somewhere different then come along."

Widely regarded as one of the most stunning routes in Scotland, the race takes participants from the village, down Glen Avon with views of the Cairngorm mountains before finishing back in Tomintoul.

The race is held to support the village in investing in things that Moray Council don't provide.

"We do it to help the village really and to put a bit of money back into the community.

"We need to keep it going and that's reliant on volunteers.

"Otherwise we will lose a lot of these events so let's hope for a good race come June 19."

The race will begin at 2pm. Once all the runners have crossed the finish line, a presentation will be held for the winning female and male between 3.30pm and 4pm.
